The Tragedy of Compromise

This week we conclude our series in Nehemiah. In chapter 13 we see Nehemiah has grown tired of the open rebellion of his people. When he returns from Susa, he finds people who have walked away from the Lord and blatantly broken their oath. We find Nehemiah with a fit of holy anger inside the depth of his soul for the things that matter to God. He has shown grace for twelve chapters, but now we see a man who is called to inflict justice on the people. This is often something we don’t want to speak of in church, but all of us need correction and reproof. Where would we be at today without someone correcting our damaging behaviors? True love speaks truth and corrects for the purpose of restoration. We see Nehemiah’s love because he had the boldness to restore these people to a right relationship with their God. I hope from this sermon you can see that even though discipline is hard at times, God allows it because you are His beautiful child whom He loves.
