Warning Against Worldliness
Often times we find ourselves facing conflict in life, whether that is in relationships at home, work, school, or even church. It is easy for us to quickly shift the blame for those conflicts away from ourselves and toward the other individuals involved. James reminds us that our conflicts and struggles in life typically don’t rise up out of our own innocence, but because of our sin. The heart is desperately wicked and often wants what it does not have, leading us to jealousy, envy, and fighting until we get what we want and destroy what stands in our path to it.
God calls us to live differently. The Holy Spirit is at work in the believer to transform and change our desires, taking our eyes off our own sinful desires and fixing them on Christ. As we look to Christ each day, transformed desires will lead to transformed lives. Praise God for this promise!
